I contributed my picks to this ongoing countdown of the Top 100 political songs, a list well-timed with the federal election. We’ll see where my choices end up (I may publish my own top 10 when the list reaches its final days).
I already feel like I need to revise my top 10 LCD Soundsystem songs from earlier today. They are one of those bands.

The list:
4. Tribulations
6. All I Want
8. Us v. Them
9. Daft Punk is Playing at My House
10. I Can Change
(originally published April 19, 2010)
I don’t have any significant pre-Junos thoughts for 2011—and may well not have any after-show observations either, but we’ll see—so here’s my post following last year’s ceremony. Even at the time, I couldn’t quite believe that I was capable of writing something so positive about an awards show that I tend to heap so much scorn upon. But there you go.
Things I am digging today: the new Cold Cave. Mmmm gothic-y pop goodness…
- Michael Ignatieff, in a statement this morning.
It’s depressing that Ignatieff had to do this. It’s not healthy to our political culture in the slightest. And yet, it really was his only option - yesterday he tried a nuanced approach to the question and it only came out muddled, twisted and lambasted. Not that’s it’s going to stop the talking point by the Conservatives…because that point depressingly works.
Vinyl re-issues of the Kill Rock Stars comp, Sonic Youth’s Whores Moaning EP, and Nirvana’s Hoarmoaning EP? Yes, please!
Also, the Cults and Wild Flag 45s… I’ll take those too.
Haven’t spent the time with the list that I need to, but I can already see the money pilin’ up.
My interview with Sackville, New Bruswick’s Shotgun Jimmie in this week’s Coast.
Always great to chat with an artist a) whose album you’re really digging, and b) is on the verge of reaching the next level in his or her career. We talked a good deal about how much his crowds on this tour are increasing, and how well the new record is going over with them. Exciting times in the Jimmie camp for sure.
Today at the blog, a look at celebrity culture and why Chris Brown just can’t catch a break.
